Apanui Mason
Apanui has 30 plus years’ experience in the building industry, he has a strong drive to succeed at a high level of professionalism, with great problem-solving skills to meet any technical challenge that may arise. Takes pride in his work and loves to discuss new ideas with clients.
Apanui wears several hats, but primarily sales and quality control are his focus as well as strategic planning. He is committed to making sure every project is running smoothly.
With his son (Petaera) on board who has learnt his trade under his leadership, the next milestone will be assisting to develop his son’s skill sets to thrive and move forward with the times in this fast-changing industry.
Apanui is a family man and loves fishing and diving with family, on the occasion you will see him at the Sky Stadium supporting the Hurricanes and watching his son playing in the senior local rugby team. He also enjoys taking his dog for a walk up around the hills of Whitireia Park.
Petaera Meihana
Greetings all, my name is Petaera Meihana. I am in my third year of my apprenticeship and through the help and support from BCITO, I am gradually achieving my goal to become successful in this industry. The knowledge, skills and experience I have learnt so far over the years have been extremely valuable and measured productively through my assessments, such as:
• Alterations
• Cladding
• Retaining walls
• Building houses
• Foundations
Through self-development, perseverance, passion and drive these are all stepping-stones towards my goal, which is to become a qualified builder.
I work for my father who has taught me everything I know about building, with his 30+ years of experience and taught under the Māori Trade Trainees umbrella, I have gained an extraordinary amount of knowledge and experience. All these factors are incredibly advantageous and beneficial towards my apprenticeship.
We are a father and son duo, and we work extremely well together. I am immensely fortunate and privileged to be given the opportunityto not only work alongside him but taught by an inspiring and knowledgeable man. My passion is all sports, particularly rugby union. I was honoured to be selected for the New Zealand Deaf Blacks five years in a row since 2015.
